I have always loved words and recently came to know that there is a term for this – lexophile, only filed (there I go already) in 2013 in dictionaries around the world.
In 2015, News 24 reported on a contest claiming that the winning lexophile (at the time it seems the word was used to describe the statement and not the person) was, “Those who get too big for their pants will be totally exposed in the end.”
Not original
Two problems here: 1. This statement is not original; 2. It simply does not make sense and would work better if they ‘got too small for their pants’, having them fall right off. If they are “too big for their pants their bellies (boeps) can be covered by a long shirt so no exposure necessary.
It seems the contest organisers were short on research and even less concerned about accuracy. A lexophile, since 2013, was defined as a lover of words.
Be the first
However, I am not here to berate but rather to brag as I have “lexophiles” using it with licence here in the wrong sense, of my own.
I assure you they are mine, they are not recorded anywhere, and they are not copied. You are reading them first here. Interestingly they all have to do with food.
- I was hungry for humour but your jokes are too cheesy
- I asked for mayonnaise but they said it would cost eggstra
- If garlic repeats on you, tell it you’ve heard it before
An interesting topic and I’m glad to come across your page where I found some helpful insights. Check out my website Webemail24 too, if you need additional resources about Gold and Silver.
